War. War has ravaged the Buervan Highlands for nearly five centuries. Ever since the Nienilef abandoned the earth and retreated to their floating cities, many outcast Humans took to claiming the region. In the wake of the land’s former keepers, peace was something foreign to the country.
Throughout the ages, many warlords have risen and fallen. The eternal conflict across the country attracted the attention of soldiers for hire. Flocking to the country, anyone who would make a living through fighting for coin had an opportunity waiting for them. Considering the trade-heavy nation of Yvoria lie to the north, merchant caravans needed protection.
In the present, mercenaries are a cornerstone to the unstable economy of the country. One city, Boranath, does make its living from trade. The rest simply grow what meager crops they can, or take over new territories. The Buervan Highlands lives and breathes through war, and it only makes sense that their primary occupation is a bloody one.
